Substitute Teacher Pool | 2025-26

Hours: Part-Time or Full-Time; 7:40am - 3:40pm daily

End Date: Jun. 10, 2026

Responsibilities

Charlotte Lab School Substitute Teachers will have responsibilities in support of Charlotte Lab School instruction:

On-Site Responsibilities:

  • Follow guidance and lesson plans provided by regular core content area teacher;
  • Deliver instruction to students by content area aligned to the Common Core & NC State Standards;
  • Facilitate instruction for whole class, small group, individuals, and advisory group;
  • Integrate technology into instruction;
  • Supervise students and maintain a clean, orderly, safe, and positive classroom learning environment;
  • Manage classroom behavior in a fair and respectful manner using an appropriate tone;
  • Alert the Guidance Counselor, Dean of Students or Wellness Assistant if student support issues arise;
  • Fulfill all other duties & responsibilities as assigned by the teacher (i.e. attendance, arrival/dismissal duty, lunch/recess duty, etc.)

Qualifications

Candidates Should:

  • Be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above;
  • Have a high school diploma.

In addition, the Charlotte Lab Instructional Leadership Team will look favorably upon candidates who:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree;
  • Hold a current North Carolina Professional Teaching license;
  • Have experience working with students of all ages;
  • Have previous experience working with diverse populations;
  • Are motivated to work in an open, progressive school environment;
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability;
  • Have strong classroom management and communication skills;
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills;
  • Are comfortable with technology and quick learner of various computer applications; and
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee must have the ability to perform the following physical tasks. Reasonable
  • accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities:
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the instructional day
  • Lift and carry classroom materials, instructional resources, and student work (up to 50 pounds)
  • with or without accommodations
  • Bend, kneel, and reach to access materials, work at student level, and assist students
  • Climb stairs and navigate multiple levels of the building as required
  • Use fine motor skills including writing, typing, and manipulating small objects
  • Hear and respond to student needs, questions, and behavioral issues
  • See clearly to monitor student work, write on boards, and read instructional materials
  • Speak clearly and project voice to be heard in classroom and group settings without
  • amplification
  • Assist students with personal hygiene needs as appropriate (for primary grades)
  • Respond quickly to student safety emergencies and assist students in evacuation procedures
  • Transport students or materials as needed for instructional purposes
  • Use hand-eye coordination for writing, computer work, and classroom activities

Compensation

Compensation for this role ranges from $129-$150/day. The pay range varies depending on the length of the position and whether planning or grading is required.
