Summer Intensive Teacher (3rd-12th Grade)

Responsibilities

  • The Charlotte Lab School Summer Intensive Teacher & Coordinator position will work with the Head of Curriculum & Programs and have the following responsibilities in support of Lab’s vision:
  • Use data to identify students in rising grades 4th - 12th graders for the summer program;
  • Coordinate and send family invitations for the summer program;
  • Responsible for the planning, organization, and implementation of the curriculum materials for the summer program;
  • Serve as the educational leader and administrator of the summer program for LS & US students;
  • Coordinate class schedules, procedures and sub coverages, as needed
  • Assist the summer school teachers and assistants with parent concerns or complaints, as needed;
  • Teach groups of gr. 3-12 students during the summer program;
  • Supervise the safety and welfare of the students participating in the programs and remain onsite until all LS & US students have left the building;
  • Take on other responsibilities as needed, and as assigned, to ensure organizational success.

Qualifications


Candidate MUST:

  • Hold an appropriate degree from a relevant institution;
  • Demonstrate experience in, and passion for, working with diverse populations;
  • In addition, the Lab School Hiring Committee will look favorably upon candidates who:

PREPARATION:

  • Are NC certified;
  • Have relevant experience in working and assisting in administrative roles;
  • Have comfort with relevant technology and experience with Google Suite;
  • Possess strong management skills;
  • Are exceptionally organized and have the ability to prioritize effectively and meet competing deadlines;

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate professional demeanor, strong self-confidence;
  • Possess excellent written communication skills;

Compensation
Compensation for this position will be:

  • June 1-June 14, 2026: $100 total for planning and organization of orientation and summer programs;
  • June 15-June 26, 2026: (Monday-Thursday, onsite 8:45am-12:15pm and offsite after hours, as needed for staff and parent communication): $160/daily.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee must have the ability to perform the following physical tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities:
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the instructional day
  • Lift and carry classroom materials, instructional resources, and student work (up to 50 pounds) with or without accommodations
  • Bend, kneel, and reach to access materials, work at student level, and assist students
  • Climb stairs and navigate multiple levels of the building as required
  • Use fine motor skills including writing, typing, and manipulating small objects
  • Hear and respond to student needs, questions, and behavioral issues
  • See clearly to monitor student work, write on boards, and read instructional materials
  • Speak clearly and project voice to be heard in classroom and group settings without amplification
  • Assist students with personal hygiene needs as appropriate (for primary grades)
  • Respond quickly to student safety emergencies and assist students in evacuation procedures
  • Transport students or materials as needed for instructional purposes
  • Use hand-eye coordination for writing, computer work, and classroom activities
