Summer Reading Program Teacher

Program Dates: July 6, 2026-July 30, 2026 (Monday-Thursday, 7:45am-1:15pm)

Compensation: $240/daily

Responsibilities:

This Charlotte Lab School high school summer teacher position will have the following responsibilities in support of Lab’s vision:

  • Report to Summer Program Director

  • Support the implementation of a literacy curriculum designed for students who are rising 2nd-4th graders

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment

  • Adapt curriculum to meet the needs of the students and classroom

  • Conduct progress monitoring and final reading assessment on each participant

  • Provide feedback to students regarding their academic performance

  • Provide supervision and direction to tutors and/or teaching assistants

  • Assist and administer Read to Achieve assessment for rising 4th grade students at the end of the program

Candidate MUST:

  • Teachers of Rising 4th grade must be a certified teacher in the state of North Carolina;

  • Teachers of Rising 2nd or 3rd grade must have a Bachelor's degree and relevant teaching experience;

  • Have experience with reading intervention, intervention planning, progress monitoring, and diagnosis of reading needs required

  • Show clear commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the Lab vision, mission, and values;

  • Be able/willing to learn how to fulfill the responsibilities listed above;

  • ?Hold an appropriate degree from a relevant institution;

  • Demonstrate experience in, and passion for, working with diverse populations;

Physical Requirements

The employee must have the ability to perform the following physical tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities:

  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the instructional day

  • Lift and carry classroom materials, instructional resources, and student work (up to 50 pounds) with or without accommodations

  • Bend, kneel, and reach to access materials, work at student level, and assist students

  • Climb stairs and navigate multiple levels of the building as required

  • Use fine motor skills including writing, typing, and manipulating small objects

  • Hear and respond to student needs, questions, and behavioral issues

  • See clearly to monitor student work, write on boards, and read instructional materials

  • Speak clearly and project voice to be heard in classroom and group settings without amplification

  • Assist students with personal hygiene needs as appropriate (for primary grades)

  • Respond quickly to student safety emergencies and assist students in evacuation procedures

  • Transport students or materials as needed for instructional purposes

  • Use hand-eye coordination for writing, computer work, and classroom activities

Environmental/Working Conditions

  • Works in a school building environment with multiple classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces

  • Exposure to occasional loud noise in classroom and common areas

  • Frequent interaction with students, families, colleagues, and community members

  • May be exposed to communicable diseases

  • Works a standard school year calendar (approximately 180 instructional days) with additional time for planning and professional development

  • May be required to attend evening events (family nights, performances, conferences) and weekend professional development

  • Subject to fingerprinting, background checks, and other screening as required by law
